SIGN-ON BONUS

The Farmington Police Department offers a very competitive and attractive benefits package. All sworn officers (entry-level or lateral) are eligible for a $5,000 hiring bonus. In-state lateral bonus $15,000.

COMPENSATION

Hourly wages start for entry-level officers starts at $27.66/hour ($57,532 yearly), and cadets are paid at this rate while in the academy. The top hourly wage for officers is $38.53/hour ($80,142 yearly). Lateral officers start between $27.66 ($57,532 yearly) and $36.66/hour ($76,252 yearly) depending on experience.

ADDITIONAL PAY THROUGH INCENTIVE PROGRAMS

This includes additional pay for formal education, shift differentials, longevity pay, and specialty position stipends.


Officers are also compensated for overtime in excess of 40 hours per week, 2-hour minimum off-duty court attendance, and on-call responsibilities. Base pay is just the beginning for most officers at Farmington PD!

ADDITIONAL BENEFITS

Vacation:

Officers immediately begin accruing vacation upon hire at a rate of 4 weeks per year.


Sick Leave:

Officers immediately begin accruing sick leave upon hire at a rate of 2.5 weeks per year.


Compensatory Time: 

Can be accrued in lieu of overtime

up to 90 hours


Retirement:

Officers participate in a mandatory defined benefit pension plan in which they can earn 75% of their salary upon 25 years of service up to 100% of their salary after 33 1/3 years of service.


Officers can also participate in a voluntary deferred compensation plan with tax deferred benefits.

Officers can earn additional pay through education programs such as:

Education

$1.67 per credit hour in additional pay per month, up to a maximum of seventy-five (75) credit hours

($125.00 maximum monthly, $1,500 yearly).

A two-year job-related

associate degree

The officer will receive a maximum of $125.00 per month compensation ($1,500 yearly).

A four-year job-related degree

(BA or BS)

The officer will receive a maximum of $167.00 per month compensation ($2,000 yearly).

A job-related masters degree (MA)

The officer will receive a maximum of $209.00 per month compensation ($2,500 yearly).

Shift Differentials:

Swing Shift

$0.75 an hour ($1,560 yearly)

Graveyard Shift

$1.50 an hour ($3,120 yearly)

Longevity Pay:

3-4 YEARS

$1.75/hour ($3,640 yearly)

5-6 YEARS

$2.00/hour ($4,160 yearly)

7-8 YEARS

$2.50/hour ($5,200 yearly)

9-10 YEARS

$3.00/hour ($6,240 yearly)

11-13 YEARS

$3.50/hour ($7,280 yearly)

14-16 YEARS

$4.00/hour ($8,320 yearly)

17-19 YEARS

$4.25/hour ($8,840 yearly)

20-22 YEARS

$4.50/hour ($9,360 yearly)

Specialty Position Stipends:

$0.69 an hour ($1,435 yearly) per specialty for a maximum of 2 specialties (maximum $2,870 yearly).
